Our Story

Mishler Funeral Home & Cremation Center

Wade E. Mishler entered the US Military as an embalmer in 1941. He served 27 months in the West Indies and 16 months in the South Pacific and Philippines during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters and was one of seven men who started the National Veterans' Cemetery in Manila. In 1946, Wade returned home from serving his country what he did not realize while overseas was that he was beginning a legacy of service to others that would be carried on for generations.

Upon his return from WWII, Wade established the Mishler Funeral Home in Milford. He would operate the Mishler Funeral Home and Ambulance Service in Milford for several decades, eventually expanding into Bremen with his son, Gregory E. Mishler.

Wade retired in 1985 but remained active. He had served the community faithfully and was a strong proponent of community involvement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #226, the Milford Fire Department, the VFW, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Kosciusko Lodge 418 F&AM of Milford, a 32nd degree Mason and Mizpah Shriner. He also attended Wawasee Community Church in Milford.

In 2001, Wade's grandson, Ryan D. Mishler, returned to the Milford community to carry on his family's legacy of service. That legacy has continued in various ways. In 2004, Ryan followed in the footsteps of his father and was elected to serve in the Indiana State legislature. Although Ryan enjoys serving in the State Senate, his heart remains in the funeral home and the community. He feels that working with families is what keeps him grounded and in touch, giving him a better perspective regarding the laws that govern our communities.

Whether it was Wade's service during WWII, Greg's service in the Army and the Indiana Legislature, or Ryan's service in the State Senate, nothing has meant more to the Mishler family than caring for families at their time of loss. This is a sacred trust that has never been taken lightly.

Today, at Mishler Funeral Home, the legacy of service continues. The Mishler family, along with a dedicated team of professionals, believes that what is always most important is what is most important to the families they serve.
