Sherry A. Martin, a beloved friend, mother, grandmother, and community member, passed away
peacefully on October 10, 2025, at her residence in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on December 2, 1944,
in Goshen, Indiana.
Sherry was Born to Rolland L. and Fern B. (Metzler) Johnson on December 2, 1944, in Goshen, Indiana.
She married Gerald Martin, and they shared many moments together until his passing 2018.
Sherry dedicated many years of her professional life to the banking industry She graduated from High
School in 1962, embarking on a journey that would lead to a rich tapestry of experiences and
connections woven throughout her lifetime. Her greatest pride, however, lay not just in her career,
but in her loving family. Sherry was a devoted mother and grandmother whose heart overflowed with
affection for her children.
In addition to her personal accomplishments, Sherry was involved in her community as a past member
of the Wawasee Community Bible Church, and most recently attended the Crossbridge Community
Church of Fort Wayne. Her faith and service were reflections of her commitment to enriching the lives
of others. Sherry found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. Throughout her years, she shared her
musical talents, playing the piano, organ, and clarinet with a passion that touched the hearts of those
around her. She delighted in solving crossword puzzles and painting, activities that brought her joy
and could often be found bringing family together in laughter and fun.
She is survived by sons, Glen (Tammy) Root, Ryan (Ann) Root, and daughter Kellye (Eric) Hoerr. She
also cherished her role as a grandmother to seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren,
providing them with an unwavering source of encouragement and love. As a sister, Sherry was a
guiding light to Barb (Jack) Hart, Teresa Wells, and her brother Sam (Jill) Johnson. Even her
stepchildren, Brenda (Tom) Bulger and David (Vickie) Martin, felt the embrace of her nurturing spirit.
With five nieces and nephews added to her circle of love, and her beloved dog, Midget "Midgie", her
family was abounded in love and togetherness.
Sherry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, who passed in 2018, her parents, and a
cherished daughter.
Sherry's legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to shine, shaping the lives of all who were lucky
enough to call her mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Visitation for Sherry will be held on Tuesday October 14, 2025, from 11AM - 1PM at Mishler’s Funeral
Home and Cremation center. Services will follow with Pastor Kim Chitwood officiating. Burial will be
at the Milford Cemetery, 13029 N 60 W, Milford, Indiana 46542.
