Robert Busch, age 90, of Dewart Lake in Syracuse, IN passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 3PM at home. He was born on June 25, 1927, the son of Oliver and Margaret (Dubuque) Busch in Logansport, IN. On October 15, 1948 he married Betty A. Adams.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Betty Busch of Syracuse, IN; seven children, Christopher (Mary) Busch of Plainfield, IN, John (Brenda) Busch of Syracuse, IN, Nathan Busch of Minneapolis, MN, Calvin Busch of Lawrenceville, IL, Rebecca (Daniel) Tusing of Syracuse, IN, Roberta (Roger Rump) Busch of Tucson, AZ, and Randolph (Tonja) Busch of Syracuse, IN; sixteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Aarron Busch; five siblings; and two grandchildren, Brandy Busch and Clayton Busch.
Bob served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Navy during which time he was stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return from WWII he went back to school and graduated from Logansport High School. He then worked as a butcher and later as a railway mail clerk traveling on the train for over 20 years. Following his years working on the railway he worked as a rural mail carrier in North Webster, IN until he retired in 1994. From 1959-1995 Bob and his wife, also operated the Dewart Lake Inn renting boats and aiding fishermen and families in their lake adventures. Bob was quite a successful fisherman himself and had a special knack for fly fishing and ice fishing. He loved to travel to Michigan every year to fish for salmon and then would smoke and can his catch with Betty. Bob also loved to hunt deer, squirrel, and rabbit with his trusty dog, Flare. He was a certified Minkota repairman and dealer, a charter member and past president of the Dewart Lake Protective Association, a charter member of the ILMS (Indiana Lakes Management Society), and a past president of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a past finance president and member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, IN and a life member of the VFW. As if Bob didn't have enough to do, he worked as a handyman well into his eighties. He was an incredible man, a great provider, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
A funeral service will be held at Mishler Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 461 W 900 N; Milford, IN 46542 at 2PM on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Pastor Jack Worth will officiate. Burial will follow at Wooden Cemetery in Harrison Township. Military honors will be rendered following the service.
Family and friends will be received from 4-7 PM on Monday, April 2, 2018 and also from 1-2 PM prior to the funeral service at Mishler Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
