Nelson Eugene Kistler

Nelson Eugene Kistler, 81, of Syracuse passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. Nelson was born June 28, 1937 in Syracuse to Russell and Mary (Droke) Kistler. He married Mary Jean Smoker on May 1, 1999; she preceded him in death on September 23, 2013.

After graduating from High School, Nelson served in the United States Navy aboard the Spinax Submarine. Nelson was proud to have served his country and a member of the Syracuse American Legion Post 223.

Nelson was a production manager in the mobile home manufacturing industry prior to his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, spending the Winters in Ft Myers, FL, golfing, watching I.U. basketball and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by four children, Danae Whetten of Ft Myers, FL, Denise (husband Dan) Brennan of Syracuse, Chad (wife Shelia) Berkeypile of Milford and Brent (wife Erin) Berkeypile of Syracuse. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother George Kistler of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Jean, two brothers, Claude and Stanley and two sisters, Katherine and Martha.

Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Nelson's life on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 20430 County Road 46, New Paris; Pastor Dwayne Runkle will officiate the service. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 223. There will be a time of sharing one hour prior to the service, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Memorial contributions in Nelson's honor may be directed to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren or the American Legion Post 223.
