Michael A. Wood

Michael A. Wood, 78, passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family on Friday morning January 16, 2026.

Born in Rice Lake Wisconsin, Mike was the son of Alfred and Gladys M. (Russeau) Wood. He would graduate from Plymouth High School with the class of 1965.

Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a helicopter crew chief for the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, bravely saving many lives and earning a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. He was Honorably Discharged in 1969.

In Warsaw, Indiana on March 6, 1970, Mike took as his wife Pamela S. Hopkins and to this union came two boys. Mike was a truck driver for Robert Weed Corporation in Bristol until his retirement in 2012.

Mike was a jokester and enjoyed to lovingly tease and scare children, all in good fun: from talking about snakes to his wife’s dolls in their house. He was a jack of all trades and knowledgeable from his love of reading in several subjects. This also meant that Mike never met a stranger and loved to carry on conversations with anyone. The couple loved to travel any chance they got, far or near. They loved exploring the different architectures and landscapes the world provides. They frequented air plane and car museums, and enjoyed going to gun shows as he was a collector of guns and coins.

He is dearly missed by his wife Pam of 55 years; his sons, Jerry E. (Bobbi) Wood of Milford and John T. Wood of Milford; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Alouise (Bill) Wade of Milford, Katherine Crouse of Milford, John (Sharon) Wood of New Paris, Pete (Gayle) Wood of Milford, Mark Wood of Milford and Jimmy (Rodonna) Wood of Avilla as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles.

Visitation will be held on Thursday January 22, 2026 from 5-8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, 461 W 900 N, Milford.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at God’s Highway to Heaven Church, 555 Weber Street, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Brown and Pastor Mike Kelley officiating.

Burial will be in the South Union Cemetery, Locke Township on 19, in Nappanee.
