Lorelei Teresa Haab, 83, was born kicking and screaming on August 23, 1941 in Blue Island, IL to Herbert and Ida (Lode) Foyle, and passed away on September 12, 2024, peacefully in her home on Dewart Lake.
She was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and spent her summers at Dewart Lake growing up. In the summer of 1960, she met a strapping young farm boy, Terry Haab, whom she married on December 17, 1961.
Both of Lorelei and Terry’s daughters, Robin and Debbie, were born just short of a year apart in 1963 and 1964, keeping Lorelei busy for a good number of years. As the girls got older, Lorelei and her young family split their time between Chicago and Dewart Lake, until 1979 when Terry and Lorelei began framing their lake home inside their garage in Chicago, then trucked it to Indiana in a trailer behind the Foyle & Sons Dump Truck. With the help of friends and family, they had it under roof in one weekend. It was in 1980 when they permanently moved to their Dewart Lake house.
Lorelei is a second generation hair stylist and got to know many people in the area because of her business. She was still cutting hair right up to the day of her passing. She loved to play euchre every weekend and in the beautiful home Terry built in Bonita Springs, FL where they spent many years hosting friends and family during the winter months.
Not only was Lorelei a very hard worker, she never shied away from hard physical work. She never sat still, she was the first to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor if they needed help with their hair, mowing, sewing or a meal. She loved her siblings, but we are pretty sure she loved Elvis more.
Lorelei was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Terry, who passed away on September 13, 2013, and her parents, Herb and Ida Foyle.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin (Tim) Stiffler of Dewart Lake and Debbie (David) Strombeck of North Webster; her brother Lenny Foyle; sisters, Karen (Jan) Fuller and Peggy (Don) Bucher; Grandchildren, Renee (Josh) Case and Michael (Katie) Stiffler; Great-grandchildren; Jacoby, Gideon, Ivy and Riley; and a boat load of nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss her dearly.
A funeral in honor of Lorelei will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 461 W 900 N, Milford, IN 46542. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.
