James A. Stieglitz

Dr. James A. Stieglitz, formerly of Martinsville, IN, passed away at age 90 on December 5, 2020 at Grace Village, Winona Lake, IN. Jim, as he was known by everyone, was the sixth son of Henry and Anna Stieglitz of Milford, IN. He was preceded in death by his brothers George, Lawrence, Harley, William, and John, and by his sister Rosemary Zook. Jim is survived by three sisters: Elizabeth Scruggs of Lake Mary, Florida; Frances Schiller of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Ruth Hooley of Lone Tree, Colorado---and by his twenty nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Jim!” He was a graduate of Milford High and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. After he graduated from the I. U. School of Optometry, Jim settled in Martinsville, IN and practiced optometry there for 35 years as a highly respected optometrist. He was a gentleman farmer who loved his farm, and was a great I.U. sports fan! We will miss Jim and his fun-loving, gentle, and generous spirit! A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Jim to the donor’s favorite charity.
