James "Jim" Sumpter

James “Jim” Eveart Sumpter, age 86, of Milford, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 8, 2024 at home. He was born on December 8, 1937 the son of Roscoe and Alice (Frederick) Sumpter in Bremen, Indiana. On September 28, 1956, he married Irene Wuthrich.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Sumpter of Milford; three sons, Mike (Loretta)  Sumpter of Milford, Max (Sherie) Sumpter of North Webster, and Mark (Tracy) Sumpter of Syracuse; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Sumpter; and a grandson, Melvin Sumpter.

Jim worked for several years for Syracuse Enterprise and retired from Chore-Time Brock in 2000 after 32 years of service. He enjoyed farming, Sulky Racing, and was a member of Wawasee Community Bible Church. Jim had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held in Jim’s honor on Thursday, January 11, 2023 at 11 am at Mishler Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 461 W 900 N, Milford, IN 46767. Pastor Tom Speicher will officiate. Burial will follow at Island Cemetery in Milford.

Family and friends will be received from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2023 and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
