Harold Edward Metzler, 93, of Goshen, passed away early Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen. Harold was born December 4, 1928, in Roaring Spring, PA to David Elmer and Lena (Stoltzfus) Metzler. He married Peggy Anne Mock on June 8, 1952; she survives.
Harold’s faith in Christ was his motivation throughout his life. He had a servant's heart which lead to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and other service projects around the world. He owned an Ace Hardware and construction crew, building many new homes in Central Pennsylvania, afterwards retiring and eventually moving to Goshen in 2010 with his wife to be with family. Harold was a kind, purposeful and mostly quiet man who loved his church, his wife, and family deeply. He enjoyed many interesting activities but few of them topped his love for reading. In his words......" After receiving my first book as a child (Little Men by Louisa May Alcott) I was never found again without a book in my hands."
Harold is survived by his wife of 69 years, Peggy, four children, Randy (Jeanette) Metzler of Missouri, Jeffrey Metzler of Bristol, Julie (John) Bachman of Goshen and Jamie (Christy) Metzler of Maryland; four grandchildren, Rachel (Chad) Petersen and Lindsey (Timothy) Burch Constance of Missouri, Lindsey (Ryan) Nord and Nathan (Michelle) Bachman of Indiana and Megan Bachman of New York and 12 great grandchildren and a fur grand baby, Findley.
Harold was the oldest of ten children and is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lena Metzler and two beloved brothers, Kenneth Metzler from Elkhart and Johnny Metzler from Maryland. Surviving siblings include Richard (Ingrid) Metzler, Darlene (Roland) Landes, Shirley (QJ) Everest, sister-in-law Dotty (Johnny), Leonard (Sharon) Metzler, Lois (Carl) Ramer, Bill (Betty) Metzler, sister-in-law Connie (Kenneth) and youngest Dale (Barb Graber) Metzler and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Assembly Mennonite Church in Goshen by invitation only, due to Covid concerns.
