Emiko Baut, age 81, of Milford, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at home. She was born on September 17, 1942, the daughter of Saiichi and Mitoe (Aguchi) Harada. On October 31, 1973, she married Leon Baut; he preceded her in death on December 3, 2012.
She is survived by two sons, Steven (Michelle) Baut of Milford, Indiana and Michael (Amy) Baut of Kensington, New Hampshire; two stepsons, Jeff Baut of Michigan, and Todd Baut of Tennessee; and two stepdaughters, Debbie Free of Utah. Emiko is also survived by five grandchildren: Brady, Blaine, Ava, Molly, and Emeline. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Sumiko Steinsieck of Washington, Hiroko Pratt of California, and Toyo Harada of Japan.
Emiko was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a stepdaughter, Gretchen Baut.
Emiko retired from Nisco in Bremen after many years of faithful service. Emiko was a two time cancer survivor and the backbone of her family. She loved being there for her grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles and watching Westerns. Emiko was an incredible cook and always welcomed everyone to her home for a cup of coffee, conversation and a home cooked meal. Her welcomeness and caring nature made a lasting impact on all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness will be cherished by many.
In keeping with her wishes, no public services are planned. Cremation will take place, and her ashes will be laid to rest in Milford Cemetery alongside her husband, Leon Baut.
