Althea Grace Haifley

Althea Grace Haifley, age 87, of Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 9:59 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Mattoon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 461 West 900 North, Milford, Indiana 46542. Funeral services honoring her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Dan Haifley and Pastor Norman Burdick officiating. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Indiana.
Althea was born on February 12, 1932 in Salina, Kansas the daughter of Taylor and Ruth (Howell) Shreve. She married David R. Haifley on July 2, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1994.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen (Valente) Hernandez of Easley, SC, Dorothy (Norman) Burdick of Mayville, NY, Ruth (Steve) Altman of Holts Summit, MO, Mamie Jean (Eugene) Yoder of Jesup, GA, Mary (Raymond) Wright of Bremen, IN and Dan (Elizabeth) Haifley of Mattoon, IL; 30 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Althea was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Haifley; granddaughter, Angela Burdick; and grandson, Jared Altman.
Althea served alongside her husband as a Pastor’s wife for 40 years. She attended and spoke at many Ladies’ Conferences in the United States and Mexico. Althea was the author of two books and was a librarian in earlier years. She was a talented musician and enjoyed doing needlework. Most of all, Althea cherished spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her.
