V. Richard (Dick) Miller, 76, of Englewood, Florida went to heaven at 3:37 p.m. on May 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 27, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to Wallace T. Miller and Enid Lillian Conklin Miller, the family moved to Warsaw, Indiana in 1947.
Dick attended Warsaw schools, graduating in 1957. He received his under graduate degree from Purdue University in 1963 and received a MSBA from Indiana University South Bend in 1972.
Richard married his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Jane Kay Rothrock, on August 19, 1961 after a whirl-wind courtship. Loving father to V. Richard Miller II (Barbara) and Pamela Sue Dilley (Jerry). Survived by siblings R. James Miller (Judy), Beverly Jean Miller and Barbara Jane Miller (Gary). Dick has six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Active in community service, Dick was a member of countless civic organizations and was a member of the F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge of Warsaw.
Dick and Jane returned to Indiana in 1967 to join the family business—Miller’s Merry Manors—founded in Warsaw, Indiana; the company grew to over 40 facilities in Indiana.
Over the course of their marriage, Dick and Jane resided briefly in Peoria then Zion, IL, and at length in Plymouth then Syracuse, IN, then Boca Raton, FL and most recently, Englewood, FL.
Dick served in the Indiana State Senate from 1976 to 1988, six of those years in leadership. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his many accomplishments.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two children and two grandchildren.
The viewing will be Thursday, May 26 from 2-8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 461 W 900 N, Milford, IN 46542. The service will be held on Friday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 S Huntington St, Syracuse, IN 46567. A meal and soiree will follow at South Shore Golf Club, 10601 N State Road 13, Syracuse, IN 46567.
Memorial contributions may be given to IU Simon Cancer Center for the Robert Wallace Miller Chair in Oncology, Purdue University Center for Cancer Research for the Robert Wallace Miller Fund, Marshall-Starke Development Center, Plymouth, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
