Jim E. Haywood, 54, of Elkhart, formerly of Mishwaka passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart. He was born to Charles and Sallie Haywood on December 22, 1959 in Martin, Kentucky. Jim was proud to be raised in Bremen, Indiana and graduated from Bremen High School in 1978. He went on to honorably serve his country in the National Guard, and in July of 1986, he married his other half, Nancy Brown. Jim worked for 20 years as a welder before getting into the insurance business; he sold insurance for over 15 years. Jim thoroughly enjoyed giving people a hard time in good humor, and was full of clever wit. He loved good music, often interjecting his knowledge of music into everyday conversation. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing; he was also a member of the Church of Christ.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Haywood; a daughter, Amanda Haywood; a son, Austin Haywood, all of Elkhart; a nephew, Chance Calton of Kentucky; and a loving extended family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings: Michael Haywood, Sue Haywood, and an infant brother, Jackie Haywood.
A celebration of Jim's life will be on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1 PM at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Preacher Steven Smith will officiate the service. After a performance of the hokey pokey, Jim will be laid to rest in the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 11-1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Haywood family, c/o Mishler Funeral Home.
