Jon E. Newcomb, 69, of Bremen passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at home. He was born to Jack and Kathleen Newcomb on November 12, 1944 in Warsaw. Jon attended Burket Elementary until the eighth grade and graduated from Mentone High School in 1963. Jon went on to graduate from DePauw University in 1967 and then began law school at Indiana University. In 1968, shortly after beginning law school, Jon entered into the US Army to serve in Vietnam, but before shipping out in 1969, he married Connie Latta on August 2nd. Jon honorably served as a combat infantryman until his discharge in 1970. Upon returning home, he continued law school and graduated from IU in 1972.
Jon served his community as a longtime member of Kiwanis, the Bremen VFW, and the American Legion; he also enjoyed sharing his love for basketball by helping with Bremen Youth Basketball. Jon was an avid fisherman and enjoyed running.
Jon is survived by his wife, Connie Newcomb of Bremen; a son, Trent (Heather) Newcomb of Plymouth; two daughters, Erin (Shay) Bailey of Hawley, Texas and Gail (Nathan) Rubendall of South Bend; five grandchildren, Olivia, Jack, Kali, Shaylynn, and Lily; his mother, Kathleen Newcomb of Nappanee; and a sister, Jill (Steve) Bailey of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 3 PM on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Mishler Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Davidson will officiate.
Friends may call from 1-3 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Bremen.
