Berniece Irene "Bunnie" Burket, 90, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Bremen, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at The Homestead at Rochester, of pancreatic cancer. She was born July 14, 1923, in Mishawaka, IN, to Oscar Herman and Nila Frances (Oswalt) Wenger. On February 28, 1946, she married Cecil Ray Burket.
Bunnie graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1941. She received her Registered Nurse degree in 1944 from Epworth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, South Bend, IN. She did private duty nursing for her sister during the polio epidemic and worked at the Indiana University medical center.
Bunnie and Cecil lived in Indianapolis, and Norfolk, VA, before settling in Bremen. They lived in Bremen from 1950 to 2010.
Bunnie was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Bremen. She enjoyed collecting ? anything and everything ? but particularly rocks discovered during horseback riding camping trips. She enjoyed drawing houses and barns and working in the yard.
Survivors include daughters: Debra Elene (Christopher) Bauch, Rochester, MN; Carla J Kaminski, Holland, MI; son-in-law: John Robert Brewster, Medora, IN; 7 grandchildren: Nicholas Burket Bauch, Palo Alto, CA; Julie Ann Bauch, Minneapolis, MN; Joshua Burket Brewster, Indianapolis, IN; Benjamin John (Bethany) Brewster, Seymour, IN; James Anthony (Ellen) Kaminski, Riverside, CA; Thomas Charles Kaminski, Holland, MI; Michael John (Christina) Kaminski, Chicago, IL; 4 great-grandchildren: Conner Botkin Brewster, Owen Benjamin Brewster, identical twins Annika Lenore and Kaija Elizabeth Kaminski; sisters: identical twin Beatrice Ann "Beadie" Weade, Mishawaka, IN; Judith Kay Shoemaker, Elkhart, IN.
Bunnie was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Nila Wenger, brother Richard Dale Wenger, husband Cecil Ray Burket, MD, and daughter Tamra Sue Burket Brewster.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the First United Church of Christ, Bremen. A private committal service at the Olive Mennonite Cemetery, Wakarusa, will precede the memorial service.
