Betty Jane Strang, 89, of Bremen passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Bremen Health Care. Betty was born on August 31, 1924 to Cal and AnnaBell (Mollenhour) Gill. She married Robert Strang who preceded her in death in May of 1973.
Betty worked all her life as nurse, entering nursing school right after high school. She began her career as a nurse at Camp Atterbury during the war. Her career as nurse allowed her to work at the Doctor’s office of Bowen, Stine and Burkett in Bremen, as the school nurse for Bremen Schools, two years in Tennessee as the Director of Nursing at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill as well as the Woodberry School in Virginia for nine years and a volunteer with hospice for 10 years. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Bremen. She enjoyed sailing, painting with water colors, quilting and gardening. Betty also enjoyed traveling. She visited the Netherlands, Germany, Rome and the Holy Land to name a few.
Betty is survived by her son, Mike (Wendy) Strang of Nappanee, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Nancy (Harold) Wentzell of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, one daughter Rebecca Baker and a brother, Mike Gill.
The funeral service will be held at the First United Church of Christ in Bremen on Wednesday, April 30 at 10:30 AM. Pastor Thomas Dean will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29 from 5 to 8 PM at Mishler Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the First United Church of Christ.
