Norman D. Bollenbacher, 90, of Bremen passed away March 26, 2014 at his residence. On July 8, 1923, Norman was born to Jesse and Amelia (Berger) Bollenbacher in Lakeville. Norman graduated from Madison Township Schools and was drafted to serve in WWII. Shortly after being drafted, he was sent to Clemson College in South Carolina to be trained as an airplane mechanic. Norman served almost three years in the Air Corp and was honorably discharged in February of 1946. After returning home, he married Elsie Vollmer in September of 1946; she passed in November of 1995. Norman was a man of faith and raised his family in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was employed with Studebakers for 23 years and with Allied Stamping for 22 years. After retirement, Norman married Marie Johnson Pittman; she passed in August of 2012. Norman loved to play cards, fish, mushroom hunt, and garden.
Norman is survived by four children, Jane McFarland, Wayne (Bonnie) Bollenbacher, Janet (Virgil) Anglemyer and Ken (Debbie) Bollenbacher all of Bremen; 7 grandchildren, Todd (Courtney) Bollenbacher, Aric (Allyson) Bollenbacher, Katie (Jack) Stanifer, Aaron (Carrie) Anglemyer, Andrew (Ashleigh) Anglemyer, Adriane (Dave) Kulczar, and Valarie Bollenbacher; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Rohrer of Goshen and Evelyn Leeper of Bremen; and two brothers, Lester Bollenbacher of Bremen and Louis Bollenbacher of Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie and his wife, Marie; two siblings, Clarence Bollenbacher and Bernice Myers; and a son-in-law, Ralph McFarland.
A funeral service will be held at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Joe Emmerth will officiate with burial following in the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday and on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 3-7 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
