Mary "Jean" Kistler

Mary "Jean" Kistler, 69, of Syracuse passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at I. U. Goshen Hospital. She was born on December 10, 1943 in Goshen to Charles and Mary (Kline) Smoker. She married Nelson Kistler on May 1, 1999; he survives.

Jean enjoyed socializing with family and friends, whether it was playing cards, dominoes or sharing a meal. She was a great cook, enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She loved to travel with her husband Nelson, especially to Ft Myers, Florida, where she enjoyed being on the beach. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Jean is survived by her husband Nelson of Syracuse, four children Danae Whetten of Ft Myers, Florida, Denise McDaniel of Syracuse, Chad Berkeypile of Milford, Brent (Erin) Berkeypile of Milford; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Jaxon, Courtney, Kyra, Grady and Elise. Also surviving are four siblings, Bob (Helen) Smoker of Leesburg, Linda (Perry) Hathaway of Claypool, Roger (Jane) Smoker of Warsaw and Deb (Salah) Ali of Washington D.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A time of sharing with the family will be from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with a celebration of Jean's life beginning at 6:00 PM, Thursday, September 26 at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 20430 County Road 46, New Paris; Pastor Dwayne Runkle will officiate.
