R. Phil Deavel, 81, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania passed away September 3, 2013. He was born January 29, 1932, son of Harold R. and Mary Ellen (Harbaugh) Deavel. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, elder sister Deane. E. Marshall, first wife Frances Tait Deavel, daughters Susan and Nancy, and by his second wife Karen Sowers Deavel. Phil is survived by: siblings R. Gary Deavel of Traverse City, MI, Shirley (Don) Madden of Novato, CA, and James R. (Arlene) Deavel of Auburn, WA; by his wife, Anne Swank Deavel of Lancaster, PA; and sons David (Catherine) Deavel of St. Paul, MN and Daniel (Jona) Deavel of St. Cloud, MN; and 9 grandchildren: Philip Augustine, Lydia, Patrick, Alex, Vincent, Oliver, Abigail, Marie, and one baby due imminently. A veteran of the Korean War, Phil was a graduate of La Paz High School and Moody Bible Institute. He worked for Indiana Carton Company for 33 years. His life had many trials, but he faced them not merely with a sense of humor, but a deep trusting obedience to Jesus Christ, in whose love and providential care he always believed.
Friends may call on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Grace Fellowship Church, Bremen, IN from 10 AM to noon. A funeral service will begin at noon with Pastor Peter Wallace and Pastor Jon Hueni officiating. Burial will follow in the Fair Cemetery of LaPaz. Memorials preferred to Moody Bible Institute.
