William "Bill" D. Heltzel, 82, of Bremen passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Hospice House of Elkhart. Bill was born on July 21, 1930 to William and Mary (Patterson) Heltzel in Bremen. In 1964, he married Nina Marie Weldy; she passed in October of 2008.
Bill retired from Bremen Castings after 30 years. Later, he worked for Ace hardware and become known as the "Ace Greeter." Bill served his country in the Korean War and was a member of the Bremen VFW and American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wood working and fixing things. Bill is remembered as a very caring man that would do anything for a friend.
Bill is survived by two sons, Bryan (Angie) Heltzel of Milford and Joe (Lori) Manning of Bourbon; two daughters, Penny (Baziel) Vrient of Elkhart and Kim (Terry) Lamb of Plymouth; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nina; and a sister, Goldie (Iedia) Weldy.
Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice.
