Joseph L. Detweiler

December 7, 1933 — March 15, 2013

Joseph Detweiler, 79, of Nappanee, formerly of Bremen, passed away peacefully at Community Hospital of Bremen on Friday, March 15, 2013. He was born on December 7, 1933, in Chateau, Oklahoma to Levi and Lydia Ann (Hochstetler) Detweiler.

On May 25, 1962, he married Rose Marie Schutz; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2008.

He moved to Indiana with his family at the age if nine. Joe served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 on the USS Worchester and was honorably discharged. Joe worked for Liberty Coach and owned and operated OK Body Shop in Nappanee which became McCormicks Motor s Body shop. Joe managed the shop until his retirement at the age of 71 in December 0f 2005. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and coaching Little League Baseball (Woodies) and the Bremen All Stars traveling league. Joe was an avid baseball, ultimate Cubs fan. From his children, "He was a quiet, honest, hardworking man who never complained. He could not always give us what we "wanted" but always gave us what we "needed." Thank You! We Love You!"

Survivors include, one daughter, Robin (Scott) Hellman of Bremen, three sons, Joseph W. (Andria) Detweiler of Bremen, Jamie (Teri) Detweiler of Bremen, Paul A. Detweiler of Bremen, 10 grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Rebecca Quintanilla, Lance Hellman, Janae Detweiler, Josie Detweiler, Julie Detweiler, Jennifer Detweiler, Andrew Detweiler, Alissa Detweiler, Makali Detweiler. Also surviving are two sisters, Amanda Detweiler of Wakarusa, Barb (Wayne) Harter of Wakarusa and a brother Eli (Sue) Detweiler of Wakarusa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Rose and a sister Sylina Kauffman.

Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 , at St Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen. Father Bob Lengerich will officiate. Burial will take place at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given to St Dominic's Catholic Church.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Heather Barrett, who without her, we know dad would not have enjoyed his last three and a half years at home. "When's Heather going to be here?" Thank you and we love you!

The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
