James Marshall, 83, of Bremen passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at home. James was born on July 19, 1929 in Nappanee to Waldo and Pauline (Tyler) Marshall. He married Connie Carothers on December 10, 1955. After graduating from Bremen High School with the class of 1947, James honorably served his country in the United States Army. He went on to lay bricks for many years, and became a certified diesel mechanic later in life. He eventually retired from AM General.
James loved his family and was a devoted husband and father. He particularly enjoyed being a grandpa and attending his grandchildren's activities. The ones most special to him remember his love for fishing, traveling, fixing things and helping others. James was also an avid sports fan, taking pride in teams like the Bulls, the Bears, the Cubs, and Notre Dame. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease everyone.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Connie; six children, Layne (Carol Ann) Marshall of Bremen, Layna Livinghouse of Plymouth, Lynn (Bonny) Marshall of Bremen, Linda (Steve) Rayl of Auburn, Loucinda Perrin of Cassopolis, MI, and Laural Marshall of MI; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Reese of Bremen; and a brother, Jerry Marshall of South Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Lisa Lemert.
A funeral will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Pastor Richard McCartney will officiate with burial following at the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday December 10, 2012 at Mishler Funeral Home and one our prior to the service on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to the Center for Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
