Robert W. Young, 86, of Bremen passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 3, 1926 to Henry and Nettie (Bleacon) Young in Chicago, Illinois. On May 9, 1948 he married Delores M. Gay on her father's farm in Mishawaka.
Robert attended Bremen High School until he was drafted by the U.S. Army to serve his country in WWII. He received a Bronze Star Medal and an honorable discharge for his service. After his time in the service, he returned to Bremen and worked for over 45 years at Bremen Castings. Robert was a proud member of the 100th Infantry Division and the Bremen American Legion. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Warsaw for over 20 years; later he became a member of the New Life Apostolic Church in Nappanee, where he currently attended.
Survivors include 2 sons, Larry L. (Evelyn) Young of Nappanee and Rodney H.H. Young of Bremen; 3 daughters, Cheryl D. (Greg) Long of Angola, Susan K. (Tim) Michael of Ft. Wayne and Debra J. VanNess of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother Ronald (Donna) Young of Plymouth; and one daughter-in-law Maria Yoder of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 64 years, Delores, his parents, a son Bobby Young, a grandson Derek Young, and a brother Clyde Young.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Dean Anglemyer and Pastor Dan Cox. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Thursday, May 10th at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Apostolic Church, Nappanee.
