Dean R. Dowty, 84, of Syracuse passed away March 26, 2012 at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. Dean was born March 8, 1928 in Middlebury, Indiana to Virgil and Mary (Bloss) Dowty. On November 29, 1952 he married Maryann Doty; she preceded him in death on August 18, 2001.

Dean and his family moved to Syracuse in 1958. He retired from Dana in 1985 after 35 ½ years of employment and later retired from working on the family farm after 50 years. Dean was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 226 in Milford and the Bethany Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Dowty of Milford, Ed Dowty of Syracuse, Phil (Melissa) Dowty of Goshen, Indiana; a daughter Rita (Dale) Currier-Ultz of Burr Oak, Michigan; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Vernon Dowty of Ossian; one sister, Mary Ellen Stump of Goshen and his special friend Inge Mathews of Milford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maryann, two sisters, Cherie Gall and Lois Hunsberger

Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, March 30, 2012 at Bethany Church of the Brethren with Pastor Timothy Sollenberger-Morphew officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 29 at Mishler Funeral Home, Milford and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bethany Church of the Brethren.
