Larry A. Howell

Larry Arthur Howell, 62, of Bremen, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 at home.

He was born May 23, 1949 in Union City to Howard Arthur and Margaret Lorene (Hinshaw) Howell.

Larry received his masters from Ball State and went on to teach music at several area schools, including, Bremen High School, Marion High School, and several elementary Catholic schools in Elkhart, Goshen, South Bend, and Mishawaka. Larry was also a guidance counselor at Marion High School. He was the founder and director of the award winning Bremen High School Singers. Larry taught choir and directed musicals there as well. He loved sharing his passion for music through teaching. Many highlights of his musical career were directing the BHS Singers at several events for Governor Bowen. He was also a member of the Bartonia United Methodist Church. Larry also enjoyed being a member of 4-H, milking and showing his registered Guernsey cows.

Larry is survived by two sisters Karen (Miles) Light of Grafton, OH and Sharon (Jon) Chalfant of Winchester; a niece Lisa (Dustin) Baughman of Fort Wayne; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Howell.

Friends may call from 2-8 PM at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen on Sunday, February 12, 2012 and from 9-11 am on Tuesday at Bartonia Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Bartonia Methodist Church in Union City at 11:00 am and will be officiated by Reverend Esther Kershaw. Burial will be following the service in Fountain Park Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family or Bartonia Methodist Church in care of Mishler Funeral Home.
