Iris L. Meyer

Iris L. Heckaman Guard Meyer, 95, of Elkhart, formerly of Bremen, passed away January 17, 2012 at Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart. She was born May 11, 1916 in Bremen to Phillip and Anna Heckaman. Iris married Wayne Guard on July 26, 1936. He was killed in a plane crash on October 13, 1944. On August 15, 1946, she married Howard Meyer, they moved to Osceola where she lived for 50 years. Howard preceded her in death on September 23, 1972.

Iris was a 1934 graduate of Bremen High School and continued her studies at South Bend College of Commerce. She worked as a secretary for Weisberger Bros. Paper Co., Moran School and retired from Klem Supply of Elkhart in 1981.

Iris is survived by a grandson, Bruce Guard, Jr. and wife Sharon Gills of Elkhart, a granddaughter, Gretchen and husband James Plassard of Willington, NC and several nieces and nephews with whom she kept in close touch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a son Bruce Guard, Sr.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen, Rev. Robert Vale of Osceola United Methodist Church will officiate the service. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Iris will be laid to rest at Bremen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Osceola United Methodist Church or to the Center for Hospice Care.
