Louis A. Balsley

Louis A. Balsley, age 87, of Bremen passed away December 12, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa. He was born December 26, 1923 in Bremen to Leo and Pearl (Ewald) Balsley. May 28, 1948 he married Mary Schrader who preceded him in death on December 14, 2010.

Louis was a lifelong farmer and retired from Bremen Castings after 40 years. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Bremen, Bremen VFW Post 8972, and a 1941 graduate of Bremen High School. He was a US Navy WWII Veteran, serving as a submariner.

He is survived by a daughter Chris (Kevin) Hershberger of Bremen, a son Jeff (Susan) Balsley of Kalamazoo, MI, five grandchildren Ann (Matt) Webster and Kate (Mitch) Moldovan, both of Kalamazoo, MI, Scott (Kayetta) Unsicker of Phoenix, AZ, Amanda (Keoni) Webster of Kailua, HI, Brooke (Steven) Davis of Bremen, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister Elaine Conley of Elkhart.

Louis was preceded by his parents and his wife.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Pastor Thomas Dean will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with Military Honors.

Friends may call 5-8PM Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the funeral home.
