Martha Ellen Gass

Martha Ellen Gass, 90, formerly of South Bend passed away on March 30, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Wakarusa. She was born on April 9, 1920 in Bremen to Ernest and Grace (Zentz) Gass.

She graduated from Bremen High School in 1937 and retired from Sibley's Foundry in South Bend where she was the secretary. She enjoyed bowling, reading, watching golf, traveling, eating lunch with friends, and spending time with her family. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed band in high school. She had been a member of Sigma Alpha Society for over 50 years and up until last year faithfully attended her sorority meetings and held all council offices.

Survivors include a nephew, Tom (Arlene) Dettbrenner of Bremen, a niece, Mary Sue (Dean) Balsley of Bremen, seven great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, a step-mother, Bernice Gass, and two sisters, Ruth Dettbrenner and Fern Gass.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM on April 2, 2011 at the Bremen Cemetery Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Thelma Megill-Cobbler.

Friends may call on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 4-7 pm at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
