Joseph Palenik

Joseph C. Palenik, 79, of Bremen, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Sterling House in South Bend. He was born May 16, 1931 in Whiting, IN to Joseph M. & Helen (Zajac) Palenik. On April 24, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart Lois Mae Eckhoff in Dyer, IN. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2008 in Mesa, AZ.

Joe was a US Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was retired from the US Postal Service and was the founder of Plaza Jewelers in Bremen.

Survivors include daughter DeAnn (James) Martin of Bremen, 2 sons: David J. (Donna) Palenik of Mishawaka & Paul T. (Dr. Sheryl) Rodts-Palenik of Lafayette, LA, and 2 granddaughters: Renee Palenik & Olivia Rodts-Palenik, and aunt Irene Vuksanovice of Naperville, IL.

Joe deeply loved his family and God. He enjoyed visiting and meeting people and watching his Bears and Cubbies.

Funeral will be held at 5PM on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and will be officiated by Father William Kummer, with military service to follow.

Friends may call from 2PM-until the time of service at 5PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Mesa, AZ.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen or to the Bremen VFW.
