Gertrude Estella Cole, 91, of Milford died November 10, 2010 at Lakeland Rehab and Healthcare Center in Milford. She was born September 24, 1919 in Sauk County, Freedom Township, Wisconsin to Emil and Esther (Dunse) Mielke. She was married on October 24, 1941 to Harvey E. Cole, who preceded her on May 11, 2000. Harvey was a WW2 veteran who served in the 33rd Infantry Division.

Gertrude and her husband retired to Milford in 1973 from Oak Park, IL. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener, an expert seamstress and enjoyed growing and canning her own vegetables, especially tomatoes. She also enjoyed making strawberry preserves from her homegrown crop as well. During WW2 Gertrude worked for Buick and then for Motorola in Chicago while residing in Oak Park. She attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Park and attended St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersburg, Indiana from 1974 until her passing. She was everything to her family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a son Harvey D. (Eileen) Cole, Berwyn, IL, a daughter Diane C. (James) Dewald, Alamogordo, NM; three grandsons, Sean, Patrick and Kevin Cole.

Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey E. Cole, three brothers, Roger, Carl and Donald Mielke, a sister Lucille Rogers and one grandson, James Dewald, Jr.

Services will be Friday, November 19, 2010 at 1:00 PM with an hour of visitation prior to the service at Mishler Funeral Home in Milford with Pastor Guthbert "Bert" Pauluhn officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
