Edith Thornton, 89, of Bremen passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She was born February 28, 1921 in Kalkaska, MI to Harrison & Jessie (Sibole) Brown. On June 29, 1939 she married Clark E. Thornton. He prededed her in death in 2004.

Edith graduated from Lakeville School, was a loving homemaker and farmwife. She was loved by all who knew her and called "mom" or "grandma" by too many to count.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Sandra (Dave) Cochran of Manhattan, IL and Shirley (Rich) Clement of Juneau, AK, 3 sons: Dennis (Cathy) Thornton of Bremen, Roger (Marge) Thornton of Leesburg and Larry (Rita) Thornton of Plymouth, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, 3 great-great grandchildren with 2 on the way, brother Ernie (Margie) Brown of Mishawaka, sister Ruby (Paul) Gorkham of California and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband Clark, granddaughter JoAnn, brothers: Elmer, Charles and Robert, sisters: Ruth and Gerturde and her parents.

Funeral service will be 10:30AM on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Roger Walterhouse. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 ? 8PM on Monday, November 8, 2010 and one hour before the service on Tuesday, all at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sunrise Chapel in Plymouth or to the American Heart Association.
