Maurice "Mick" Stevens, 89, of Bremen passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Angola, Indiana. He was born June 15, 1920 in Bremen to August & Erma M. (DeRoose) Stevens, who both emigrated from Belgium. He married Berthella May Whitmyer on June 17, 1945. She survives.
Maurice attended Oak Grove Missionary Church and was a member of Madison Twp Lions Club. He graduated from Madison Twp School in 1937, was a farmer and carpenter working for Lafree Construction and then Century Builders for many years. Along with his two oldest sons, he built his own house north of Bremen in 1962. Mick was known for his woodworking skills, having crafted grandfather clocks for each of his 6 children and himself.
Survivors include 6 children: Michael (Suzanne) Stevens of Logansport, Patrick Stevens of Huntsville, AL, Janet Jyoti Weaver of Indianapolis, Dr. Thomas (Donna) Stevens of Angola, Kerry (Gloria) Stevens of Austin, TX, Julie (Jerry) DuVal of Marysville, OH, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Kevin Skaggs. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 ? 8PM on Friday, June 4, 2010 and one hour before services on Saturday, all at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison Twp Lions Club.
