Arthur R. Bevan, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. Arthur was born November 29, 1919 in Pueblo, Colorado to William and Rose (Ryan) Bevan. He married Iona Patterson, who preceded him on February 2, 1989.
Arthur was employed with Illinois Bell, AT & T and retired as a supervisor from Indiana Bell after 43 years in the telephone industry. Was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as much as 3-4 time per week, and enjoyed bowling and softball as well. He was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Arthur liked spending time outdoors and enjoyed fishing. He was devoted to his faith and was very active at the Christian Fellowship Church where he served as treasurer for several years. Arthur had most recently been attending the Dewart Lake Community Friends Church. Arthur proudly served his Country during World War II serving in the United States Army.
He is survived by a daughter, Peggy (Clyde) Rector, Syracuse, a son, A.R. "Chip" (Geri) Bevan, Jr., Schererville, Six grandchildren Cindy Vining, Suzie Slocum, Missy Kirkham, all of Syracuse, Aaron Bevan, Hammond, Ashley Semier, Highland, and Todd Bevan, Schererville. Also surviving is 10 great grandchildren, Justin Vining, Nathan Vining, Anthony Gagliano, Dayna Gagliano, Taylor Slocum, Paige Slocum, Libby Kirkham, Aiden Bevan, Ellie Bevan, Noah Semier.
Arthur was preceded by his parents, wife, one sister, Violet Scherer and an infant brother.
Services for Arthur will be Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM Central time at Memory Lane Memorial Park, 6305 Lincoln Highway, Schererville, IN with Reverend Donald Rector officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Eastern time at Mishler Funeral Home, Milford and also two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at Memory Lane Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions in Arthur's name may be given to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, P.O. Box 96010, Washington D.C., 20077-7514, the Dewart Lake Community Friends Church or Quaker Haven Camp.
