Sjoerd Kupeerus

Sjoerd Kupeerus, 89, of Milford, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Milford.

Sjoerd was born March 20, 1920 in the Netherlands to the late Frank and Hebeltje (Mulder) Kupeerus. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Clemmer, she preceded him on October 28, 2009.

Formerly from New Paris, Sjoerd was a member of the College Mennonite Church in New Paris, and worked at Goshen Dairy before injuring his back. He enjoyed the water, boating and swimming in his pool. While in the Netherlands, he worked in the family business as a barrel maker and was a dairy worker. During the War, he was imprisoned by the Germans and upon being released he made his way to the United States.

He is survived by a son, Gerald (Vickie) Kupeerus, New Paris,

2 grandchildren, Chris Kupeerus and Jeremy Kupeerus both of New Paris; 2 great grandchildren, Lexin and Xander, both of New Paris and several relatives living in Holland.

Sjoerd was preceded in death By his Parents and wife, Betty.

Services will be Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Mishler Funeral Home in Milford with Pastors Lee and Betty Hochstetler officiating. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
