Benjamin Earl Smith, 79, of Bremen passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at his residence. He was born March 2, 1930 in Mishawaka to Carlos & Violet (Jump) Smith. On December 19, 1953 he married Gloria Mae Volqardsen. She survives.

Benjamin worked for ATL-ANR Trucking in South Bend, was a US Army Veteran and stationed in Japan and Korea, was a member American Legion/VFW in Bremen, Teamster Local 364. He was also a member St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bremen.

Survivors include wife Gloria Smith of Bremen, 2 sons: Patrick Jay (Debbie) Smith of North Carolina, Michael Ray (Melanie) Smith of Pierceton, 1 daughter: Pamela Kay (Tom) Reed of Cromwell, 5 grandchildren, 3 sisters Loretta Gnivicki of Indianapolis, Barb Williams of Indianapolis, Verna Rogers of MI, 2 brothers: Richard Smith of Elkhart and Dennis Smith of CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bremen and will be officiated Pastor Roger Rohde. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery with graveside military service.

Friends may call from 4 ? 8 PM on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
