Ray Buhrt, 88, died on September 15, 2009 at 6:25 AM in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.
He was born November 19, 1920 to Paul & Ida Mae (Mock) Buhrt. On November 12, 1944 he married Leona Zimmer in Warsaw. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He and his wife Leona owned and operated Buhrt Builders for 39 years. He was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, and the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse. He was a former member of the Syracuse Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed working with his hands and his attention to detail and quality is well known in the Syracuse area. Living on the lake, he enjoyed fishing and he always had a bountiful garden. Many family members learned to drive boats, water ski, and sail under his watchful eye. Golfing and Billiards were other pastimes he enjoyed with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Leona, his 3 children Dennis (Jan) Buhrt of Warsaw, Joan Currier of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Michael (Sandee) Buhrt of Milford, 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. The following siblings also survive him: John Buhrt of Warsaw, Robert Buhrt, Florence Nemeth, and Mabel Waldbesser all of Milford, and Violet Lutes of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lewis Buhrt.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009, 10:00 AM at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel in Syracuse with Pastor David Herr officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Milford with Military Honors conducted by members of the Syracuse American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 18 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
