Duane L. Laidig

L. Duane Laidig, 76, of Madison Township passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 surrounded by his family at St. Joseph Reg. Med. Ctr. in South Bend. He was born on November 9, 1932 at home in Madison Twp to John & Audrey (Berkey) Laidig. He married Jo Sherland on June 14, 1953. She survives.

A lifetime farmer, Duane graduated from Madison Twp. High School in 1950, was a founding member of Community Gospel Church in Bremen since 1967, member Madison Township Lions Club, and Penn Booster Club. An avid sports fan, Duane faithfully cheered on the Boilers, Kingsmen, Cubs and most recently the Bethel Pilots. He found great pleasure in watching his grandchildren both on the court and on the field. He loved the land and embraced hard work.

Duane was characterized by integrity, contentment, optimism and a persistent sense of humor. He will be deeply missed as a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend. This man with giant hands leaves behind a rich legacy and lasting imprint on the lives of all he loved so dearly.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Jo Laidig of Madison Twp., 3 sons: Kurt (Rhonda) Laidig of Madison Twp., and their children: Andy, Brent, Wes, Julie (Bryan) Mattison, Son Scott (Sheila) Laidig of Madison Twp. and their children: Aaron, Nate, Sam, Kara, and Kendra, Son Tom (LeeAnn) Laidig of Madison Twp. and their children: Caleb, Abby and Jeff, 1 daughter: Jan (Vic) Baumgartner of Auburn, and their children: Micah and Megan Baumgartner, 3 brothers: Jonathan (Sonja) Laidig, Stanley (Myrt) Laidig, Dwight (Sandy) Laidig, 1 sister Phyliss Billman He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Bremen Cemetery and will be officiated by Pastor Mike Fanning, followed by an 11:00AM Memorial Service at Community Gospel Church (68893 State Road 331), just north of Bremen.

Friends may call from 3 ? 8 PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Community Gospel Church.
