C. Earl "Papa" Hirons, 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 4:48AM at Avalon Village in Ligonier.
He was born on June 6, 1914, in Muncie, IN, (Delaware County). He played Basketball and Football before graduating from Yorktown High in 1933.
He married Lillian (Monroe) "Gee-Gee" Hirons in 1936. She preceded him in death in 1992 in Muncie, IN. He was also preceded in death by his parents John F. and Eva (Monroe) Hirons, 1 sister Francis and 1 brother Donald Hirons.
Surviving are one daughter Nancy L. Blade, Syracuse, IN, one son David E. Hirons, Muncie, IN, one brother Richard and Connie Hirons, Bluffton, IN, 2 grandchildren Force Master Chief Commander Kevin R. and Dawn Blade, Springfield, VA, Nicole L. Blade, Syracuse, IN, 3 great-grandchildren Mrs. Jonathan (Andrea) Howard, Providence Forge, VA, Seth and Shay Long, Syracuse, IN, 3 other grandsons include Eddie Hirons, Indianapolis, IN, Ronnie Hirons, Muncie, IN, and Rob Hirons, Hartford City, IN.
He lived and worked in Muncie, IN, and retired from GM as a Tool and Die Maker after 26 years of service. He was a summer resident "Laker" of Syracuse since 1965, an avid fisherman indeed. He moved to Syracuse permanently after the death of his wife Lillian Hirons in 1992. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Muncie and a member of The Eagles in Syracuse.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie, IN. Pastor Kent Butcher will officiate. Friends may call from 5-8PM on Monday, February 4, 2008, at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the Alzheimer's Association.
