Thedia Arlywn (Michael) Rhodes, age 81, of Milford, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital. She was born on April 10, 1925, in Lagrange, Indiana, to Plomer Ray and Ida Mae (Prough) Michael.
On September 10, 1960, she married Gordon E. Rhodes. He survives.
Thedia resided in Milford the marjority of her life. She attended grade school at Miller's one room school in Jefferson Township, then graduated from Milford High School in 1943. She graduated as an R.N. from Ft. Wayne Methodist School of Nursing in 1946 and worked as a nurse in various hospitals before joining the Navy Nurse Corp in 1951, where she served as a nurse until 1955 in California, Hawaii, and Kwajalein Island. After returning home, she graduated from Warner Beauty College in Ft. Wayne and worked as a hair stylist at Thedia's Beauty Salon in Milford until she retired in 1978. She then took a tax preparation course at Worth's Tax School in Warsaw.
Thedia was a 70 year member of the Milford First Brethren Church where she served many years as a children's Sunday School teacher and WMS member and also the Friendship Class Secretary-Treasurer.
Survivors include her husband: Gordon E. Rhodes of Milford, 1 daughter: Julia Ann (and fiance' Paul Schache) Florea of Fairmount, Indiana, 1 son: Richard Rhodes of Milford, 6 grandchildren: Jacob, Gabriel & Hannah Rhodes, Ann & Sarah Florea, and Tyler Schache, 1 Brother: John Michael of Mesa, AZ, 1 niece: Kathy Michael of Phoenix, AZ, 2 nephews: Harry Michael of Arizona and Jack Michael of Detroit, MI. She was preceded in death by 1 sister, 2 brothers and her parents.
Services will be held Friday, December 1, 2006, at 10:30AM at the Milford First Brethren Church. Pastor Billy Hesketh will officiate. Burial will follow at the Milford Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4PM & 6-8PM Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Milford.
