Hilda M. Hanlin

Hilda M. Hanlin, age 78, of Leesburg, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at her residence. She was born on January 1, 1928, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, to Felix & Mary (Hardman) Stouter.

In 1946, she married Delbert Hanlin. He survives.

Growing up in Maryland, Hilda lived in many places throughout her life, some of which include: Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, settling in Leesburg 6 years ago. Hilda was an English Professor at Kent State University for 5 years, she was also a teacher at Louisville High School in Louisville, OH for 30 years where she retired from teaching (English, Music, Voice and Piano). She was honored as the Outstanding Educator in America 1973-1974 by the Academy of American Educators and she was the key note speaker for the National Council of Techers of English Convention in Boston speaking on "Efficiency in Research". She authored the book T.S. Eliot's Water Motif: A Unifying Symbol. She was also a licensed realtor.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years: Delbert Hanlin of Leesburg, her son: Earle (Kelly) Hanlin and her daughter: Carol Hanlin both of Leesburg, 5 Grandchildren: Sabrina Moore of Leesburg, Sarah (Anthony) Slatter of Louisville, KY, Samantha Moore of Louisville, KY, Michael Hanlin and Nicholas Hanlin both of Leesburg, 3 Step-Grandchildren: Chandler Tenney, Brittney Tenney and Chase Tenney all of Leesburg, 2 Great Grandchildren: Aiden Moore of Leesburg and Aereli Slatter of Louisville, KY, 3 sisters: Ruth Wisotzkey of Georgia, Margie (Frank) Valentine, Anna Haley both of Maryland and 1 brother: Charlie Stouter of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 borthers and sisters.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 3:00PM at the Locust Grove Church, Mt. Storm, West Virginia, Pastor Owen Stoltz will officiate. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be given to The Student Scholarship Fund of Manchester College.
