August A. "Gus" Luyben, age 84, of Syracuse, IN, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born August 7, 1922 in Ft. Wayne, IN to Joseph & Sarah (Bleeker) Luyben. November 3, 1951 he married Alice Gut, who survives. August moved to Syracuse in 1969 from Ft. Wayne. He retired from Dana Corporation in Syracuse where he was a tool grinder. August was a WWII Coast Guard Veteran, member of the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse, VFW Post 1342 in Syracuse, member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, and a 1941 graduate of South Side High School in Ft. Wayne. He is survived by his wife Alice of Syracuse, a daughter Rebecca (Darrell) Campbell of Syracuse, a granddaughter Abby (Brandon) Moe of North Webster, a grandson Brett Campbell of Syracuse, a sister Ruth Lewis of Auburn, IN, a brother Rev. Karl Luyben of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elizabeth and 2 brothers Ferd and Joseph.
Services will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel in Syracuse. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8PM at the funeral home.
