Ethel Eloise Swanson

October 28, 1916 — August 13, 2006

Ethel Eloise Swanson, age 89, of Bremen, formerly of the South Bend area, passed away at Bremen Health Care Center on Sunday, August 13, 2006. She was born in Cropsy, Illinois, on October 28, 1916, to John & Altha (Alford) Elliott.

In 1942, she married Walter Gish. He preceded her in death in 1964. In 1980, she married Harlon Duane Swanson. Harlon passed away in 1992.

A lifetime South Bend area resident, Ethel was the bookkeeper for ACME Design for 7 years and was a bank teller for 1st Source Bank. She was a member of the Gospel Center Church in River Park, South Bend, where she enjoyed singing and playing the organ.

Survivors include a son: Perry (Jean) Gish of Mishawaka; 3 stepsons: Alvin (Judy) Swanson of Conway, South Carolina, Gary Swanson of South Bend, and Bruce (Linda) Swanson of Cordova, Tennessee. 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first and second husbands.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at 5:00PM in the Bremen Cemetery Masoleum Chapel. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
