Jack C. Vanderford, age 89, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Goshen General Hospital. He was born on June 3, 1916, in Albion, Indiana, to Chester and Helen (Franks) Vanderford.
A lifetime area resident, Jack was the Owner and Operator of Ideal Beach Sales and Service, a former real estate broker and former manager of the Syracuse License Branch. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, a member of the Syracuse American Legion Post 223, Secretary/Treasurer of the Wawasee Property Owners Association for over 25 years, 32nd degree Mason and Past Master, Graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, ROTC instructor at Purdue during WWII and very active in the Republican Party. As a lake area businessman, Jack had a hand in numerous projects that benefited the community. Throughout his life, especially in his advanced years, Jack loved to watch the many faces of the lake and related fascinating stories of the past that most of us can only experience second-hand.
On November 9, 1940, he married Dorothy Hogue in Muncie, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2005.
Survivors include 1 daughter: Ann (Arther) Garceau of Danville, Indiana, 2 grandchildren: Aimee (Shawn) Bolinger of Mufreesboro, Tennessee, Alison Garceau of Danville, 1 great grandchild: Jackson Cole Bolinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Dorothy, 2 brothers: Richard F. and James R.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at 11:00AM at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse. Pastor Mark Eastway will officiate. Burial will be at the Brick Church Cemetery in Hagerstown, Indiana. There will be no visitation.
