Douglas A. Schmahl, age 63, of North Ogden Point Road, in Syracuse, passed away on December 28, 2005, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, New York, on October 21, 1942, to Allan F. and Glenys V. (Vincent) Schmahl.
Douglas was a Certified Public Accountant. He worked for Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery CPA Firm (1964-1971), for Liberty Homes, Inc., in Goshen (1971-1982) and retired from Holly Park Homes, Inc., in Shipshewana, Indiana, where he worked from 1982 until retirement in 1993.
After graduating from Kettering Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, in 1960, he received his B.S. in Accounting from Ohio State University in 1964. He is a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, and admitted to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants June 30, 1967. He was a member of the International Lightning Class Association, Member and Past Commodore of the Wawasee Yacht Club (Member since 1972). Past Treasurer, Turkey Creek Regional Sewer District, Pastor President of Lakeland Youth Center Board of Directors and Served on the Board of Directors of the Wawasee Property Owners Assocation.
On October 24, 1964, he married Judith Ann Pifer at the Faith Lutheran Church in Dayton, Ohio. She survives.
Surivivors include his wife: Judith Ann Schmahl of Syracuse. His children: Jeffrey (Donna) Allan Schmahl of Indianapolis, Stephen (Amy) Douglas Schmahl of Denver, Colorado, Julia Kathryn (Bob) Sanders of Denver, David (Kimberlee) Schmahl of Chicago, Illinois, and Carolyn Elizabeth (Brad) Vonderheide of Denver, Colorado. His brother: Donald V. Schmahl of San Francisco, California, also survives. Douglas has 11 grandchildren and 2 nephews who also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2005, at 11:00AM, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. A private burial will take place. Friends may call 4-8PM Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse, Indiana.
Memorials may be given to the Indiana Sailing Foundation or the Calvary United Methodist Church.
