George E. Wood, age 59, of Syracuse, Indiana, died at home in the evening hours of December 26, 2005. Born to John and Elizabeth (Bradley) Wood, he was a lifelong area resident.
George was fortunate to find his calling early in life, deciding as a young boy to become a pharamcist. In pursuit of this dream, the 1964 graduate of North Webster High School enrolled at Purdue University, graduating from the School of Pharmacy in 1969. After serving his country, rising to the rank of captain in the United States Army, George embarked on a career that enabled him to provide compassionate care to countless Northern Indiana residents, most recently as a pharmacist at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
A believer in life-long learning, George returned to Purdue in 1994, where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and was named an associate professor by the School of Pharmacy, serving as a clerkship coordinator and a preceptor to pharmacy students.
While George enjoyed his career, he discovered his true love, Jeanette Munro, while at Purdue. Married in 1969, George and Jeanette have spent the last 36 years raising a family and sharing the laughter of a wide circle of friends.
A voracious reader, avid fisherman and accomplished craftsman, George was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, two daughters: Mary and Katherine; a grandson, Timothy; his mother; and two sisters, Barbara and Lynn.
Arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, December 31, 2005, from 11:00-2:00PM at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, to be followed immediately by a Masonic Memorial Service and Military Honor Guard Ceremony.
