Jerry B. deSomer, age 57, of Mareeba, Australia, formerly of the Syracuse and Milford areas, passed away unexpectedly at a friend's home in Syracuse, Indiana, on Saturday, December 17, 2005. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, on December 11, 1948.
Jerry was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, and was a resident of the Syracuse/Milford area until moving to Australia 25 years ago, where he owned and operated gold mines. He served during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army and was a former member of the American Legion.
He married Sandra deSomer who survives in Australia.
Survivors include his wife: Sandra deSomer of Mareeba, Australia. His mother: Dorothy deSomer of North Carolina, 4 daughters: Tabatha and Cassandra of Australia, and Heather (Buster) Clevenger of Longview, Texas, and Jenna deSomer of Winterhaven, Florida. A son: Rob (Lori) deSomer of North Webster, Indiana, and 2 step-sons: Todd and Adam of Australia. Several grandchildren survive. He has 2 brothers who also survive: Jay deSomer of Albuquerque, New Mexico and John deSomer of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a brother: Jim deSomer of North Carolina.
Services will be held 7:00PM, Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Syracuse. Friends may call 4-7PM on Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the funeral home. Funeral Services will include military honors.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion or the Leukemia Society.
